Wrestlers who have matches must compete in the zone qualifier. If there is no one in their weight class, they do not need to attend (must be weighed in and registered in advance).
Novice & Bantam: Top 3 athletes / weight class qualifying at zone competition move on to PEISAA Championships. Grade 3 & 4 (pre-novice) wrestlers are not eligible to compete at the PEISAA Provincial Championships.
Intermediate: Top 4 athletes / weight class qualifying at zone competition move on to PEISAA Provincial Championships.
All Senior wrestlers qualify to PEISAA Provincial Championships.
Team Points
1st – 5 points; 2nd – 3 points; 3rd – 1 point towards the Provincial Team Championship in each age / gender classification.
If there is only one athlete qualified in a weight class for the PEISAA Championships, the athlete will not receive a default gold medal (*new in 2024) and no team points are awarded. They will be informed by the commissioner / drawmaster prior to competition.
If there are only 2 in the weight class, it will be best 2 of 3 (*new in 2024)
If there are two or more athletes who are qualified in a weight class and an athlete comes to the PEISAA Championships prepared to compete and, due to one or more no shows, is not required to wrestle, the athlete will receive a medal and full team points.
Format for determining team points
Definition of “team” *new in 2024
Bantam – Senior: 2 or more athletes per school’s gender / age classification
Novice – 4 or more wrestlers per school’s gender / age classification
If someone was registered for the zone but has no one, they still count towards their school’s team total number of athletes to make their school eligible as a “team” (not their fault there is no opponent) but can not get team points & are not required to attend (if they have no opponent). They will be declared a default winner (no medal).
Up to 8 wrestlers per gender/age can accumulate team points to determine team winner (was previously unlimited medal winners could accumulate team points). We will use Wrestling Canada Lutte’s tie breaking policy.
Important: Please submit results from zone qualifiers to Megan Morrison and Tim Murphy asap after the meet (within 24 hours of completion of your zone meet.) Wrestlers will keep their same weight from zones.
Please notify commissioner / drawmaster of any qualified wrestlers who are NOT attending provincials ASAP so they can be removed from the draw This is very important as no-shows drastically impact the draw, tournament and overall team points.
Rules
Rules will follow the Wrestling Canada Lutte rulebook:

End of Match
A match ends by pin, most accumulated points at end of regulation time or a 10 point superiority (i.e. 10-0, 11-1)
Match Duration
Novice / Bantam / Intermediate: 2 x 2-minute rounds, 30 second break
Senior: 2 x 3-minute rounds, 30 second break
*Scores are cumulative i.e. if it is 6-2 after round 1, round 2 starts at 6-2.
