PEISAA SENIOR “A” WOMEN BRONZE MEDAL GAME at HOLLAND COLLEGE MARCH 11, 1:00pm.

SOURIS SPARTANS at MORELL MARLINS: The girls played a close first half with Morell ahead 20-19. Ailah MacDonald and Raegan Jardine had 8 each at halftime for the Marlins while for the Spartans, Mia MacKenzie had 7 and Ava Ching 6.  Souris rallied in the 3rd quarter to lead 33-29 behind 8 points from MacKenzie but 2 quick hoops by MacDonald tied the game at 33 with 5:47 to play. Ava Ching scored to break the tie and then Bethany MacPhee had an offensive rebound and converted it for a hoop plus a foul shot to put Souris ahead 38-33 with 2:53 left. Emilie Dunn scored for Morell with 37.9 seconds to play. Ching hit one foul shot with 34 seconds to play making the score 39-35 for Souris. Martha  van Diepen hit one foul shot with 29.7 seconds left making it 39-36 Spartans and Julia McInnis-Taylor added 3 more foul shots in final seconds making the final, 42-36…a bronze medal for the Souris Spartans.
Top scorers were: MacDonald with 19 and Jardine with 8 for Morell while for Souris, MacKenzie had 15 , Ava Ching 11 plus 10 boards while Maribeth Power added 10 rebounds.

PEISAA SENIOR “A” MEN BRONZE MEDAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME FROM HOLLAND COLLEGE, MARCH 11, 3:00PM   THREE OAKS #3 vs GRACE CHRISTIAN
Fast-paced game was tied 15-15 after first quarter and 30-30 at half-time. Cody Rancourt led the Knights with 22 points while for the Axemen, RJ Ongo had 3 three’s and 13 points with Given Diva hitting for 8 points and 7 boards. The three quarter mark was still close with the Axemen up 52-49.
With 2:00 to play, the score was 58-58 each. Jonas Bingley tied it at 58 after hoops by Grace Christian’s Kyler Barrett and a nice reverse layup by Riley Bissett. Diva had a steal and fast break hoop followed by a slick runner by Renial Atvengenio to put TOSH ahead 62-58 with 1:11 to play. Bingley and Diva had huge rebounds in last minute to maintain the Axemen lead. But an offensive rebound and hoop by Rancourt brought the Knights to within 3 points with 21.5 seconds remaining. Grace Christian’s defense stole the ball and called time out with 9.9 seconds to go. A last second trey was missed at the buzzer and the Axemen preserved the win 63-60, capturing the bronze medal.
Top for the game: For Grace Christian: Rancourt had 37 points and Kyler Barrett 9 points.
For Three Oaks: Diva had 17 points and 11 rebounds, Ongo had 15 points, Atvengenio had 7 and John Abella 6.

PEISAA SENIOR “A” WOMEN GOLD MEDAL AT HOLLAND COLLEGE MARCH 11.
Ch’Town Rural #3 vs Francois Buote.


Rural Raiders rode hot three point shooting from Darcie Gallant, with 4, and 7 points from Sarah Aceac plus  the rebounding strength of Johanna Gill and Ella McEntee to get a 22-11 lead after the first quarter but the Jaguars came back using the speed of Reem Bakir (10 points), Alex Scales (6 points) and Emily Holmes’ and Paulina Munoz-Morales’ rebounding to make the halftime score 33-30 for the Raiders.
After three quarters, the lead for Rural was still three, 50-47 but both teams were starting to have several players in foul trouble heading into the final quarter. Play went back and forth, with McEntee for Rural and Scales for the Jags trading hoops. Missed foul shots by both teams down the stretch left the score tied at 63-63 with 32.8 seconds to play.  Francois Buote turned the ball over and with 21.2 seconds the Raiders planned their last shot in a time out. The shot was turned over and overtime was on!
Scales completed a three point play early and Aceac replied with an offensive rebound hoop before Morales hit both foul shots for a 68-65 lead with 1:46 in overtime to go. Aceac hit another foul shot after another offensive rebound and Shana MacPhee replied for the Jaguars with one foul shot to make it 69-66, 32 seconds left and after stealing the ball, MacPhee hit two more giving Francois Buote the final lead and gold medal victory, 71-66.

For Rural #3:  Gallant (21 pts), McEntee (14 pts, 9 defensive and 5 offensive rebounds), Aceac (12 pts) Gill(11pts)
For Francois Buote: Bakir (22 pts), Scales (18 pts), Amelie Doucet (8 pts), and Holmes 7 points and 16 rebounds.

PEISAA SENIOR MEN “A” BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP at HOLLAND COLLEGE, MARCH 11  KENSINGTON vs MORELL

The first quarter saw the teams getting loose, the score was tied 14-14. Play continued to be back and forth with a lot of unforced errors and turnovers resulting in missed scoring chances. The Torchmen had the half-time lead 28-23. For Morell Ethan Feehan had 13 points, while Isaac Clark with 10 and Nolan Cash with 7 led Kensington. Kensington stretched its lead to 48-36 after three quarters and continued into the fourth. They were led by Tristan MacLeod and his three treys, running to a 60-41 lead with 6:25 to play and wrapped up a 69-48 gold medal victory.

Morell: Feehan 29 points, 14 boards, 4 players had 4 points each.
Kensington: MacLeod, 15 points, Cash and Clark 11 points, Ethan Peters-Ellis 11 points and Rodney Robinson 10 points

PEISAA “AA” WOMEN BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSIPS AT HOLLAND COLLEGE March 12, 2024
WESTISLE vs COL GRAY #2
Thea Knickle was 4/4 from foul line, Taylor  Bridges had 4 points and Jessane Birung had 7 rebounds as Col Gray #2 took a first quarter 13-6 lead. Ashley Hardy had 4 points for Westisle. At the half, the Colonels were up 28-14. Bridges had 10, Ava Tweedy 6, Mariah Jennkins and Knickle 4 each. Hardy was dominant for the Wolverines with 12.
The Colonels stretched their lead to 51-24 after three quarters. Final was 67-32, the Colonels win “AA” bronze medal.

Westisle: Hardy 21, Ava Rennie 6 and Jayla Hdson 5.
Col Gray #2: Jennkins 14, Bridges, 14, Tweedy 13, and Gabby Livingstone and Knickle 8 each.

THREE OAKS #2 vs COL GRAY #2
Col Gray #2 literally raced away to an early 23-8 lead, using their speed plus rebounding advantage. Xavier Direnberger had 11 and Bain 8  to lead the charge. Three Oaks picked up their defense in second quarter and behind the offensive rebounding from Miguel Hernandez with 7 total boards climbed back into the game, behind 33-23 at the half.  Direnberger with 13 and Miki Bain led the Colonels while for the Axemen, Hernandez had 7 and Alex Ramsey 4.
After three quarters, Colonels led 54-41. The Axemen closed to within six, midway through the fourth quarter but 2 steals and hoops by Bain extended the lead back to ten and with 3 minutes to play led 65-51.  The Axemen scored on 2 steals in last 59 seconds and then a hail-mary three by Brandon Smith made the score 67-65 with 10 seconds to play. Col Gray #2 managed to hang on without a shot to claim the victory 67-65 and win the bronze medals.

PEISAA SENIOR “AA” WOMEN’S BASKETBALL GOLD MEDAL GAME, MARCH 12 at HOLLAND COLLEGE

CH’TOWN RURAL #2 vs BLUEFIELD #2
A defensive first half, with missed opportunities on both sides led to a low-scoring first half. The defensive first half had the Raiders with a 19-16 lead. Molly MacNeil scoring 7, Carly Gauthier 5 and Ciara Smith 4 led the Rural. Two late steals and full court layups by Addison Langley brought the Bobcats back into the half. Josie MacLean and Mackenzie Ramsay also added 4 points each for Bluefield.
After a tough shooting quarter for both teams, the Bobcats held a slim 25-23 lead. Rural Raiders had a 29-25 lead behind Smith’s 2 hoops, with 5:19 to play. A three pointer by Andi-Lee Reardon got the Cats within 1 but they could not pull it out as the Rural Raiders won the “AA” Women Senior Gold medal, 29-28.

MONTAGUE vs CH’TOWN RURAL #2

Rural jumped out to a 19-11 first quarter lead behind 5 points from Hugo Nguyen and Mason MacNeil. Cohen Roberts had two treys for the Vikings. Play was tough under the boards and Rural was led by Landon MacCallum with 8 defensive boards, 4 offensive rebounds plus 5 blocks and 4 points. Omaid Ahmadi had 8 points and Nguyen 7 as the Raiders led at the half, 29-21. For the Vikings, 6 players split up the offense as they were battling with 3 players charged with 3 fouls each.
It took 3:15 of the third quarter for the Vikings to catch and overtake the Raiders as Ethan Lowe had 6 points and Roberts a three-pointer before a time-out stopped play with Montague up 33-31. Nguyen took over the game by himself with a steal, two driving layups and a three-pointer from downtown Charlottetown to push the Raiders to a 45-40 third quarter lead!!
Montague caught fire with 6 three-pointers in the fourth quarter, three from Wason Bulpitt, to take the lead 61-54 with 2:43 to play and cruised from there winning the gold medal 66-56.

Rural #2: Nguyen 17, MacNeil 16 , Ahmadi 8 and MacCallum with 6 pts, 17 rebounds and 11 blocks.


PEISAA AAAW BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS BRONZE MEDAL GAME MARCH 12, HOLLAND COLLEGE
BLUEFIELD vs MONTAGUE

The pace was quick, but shots were bouncing away in a low scoring first quarter. Bluefield was ahead 10-7, led by Sophie LeClair with 7.
 Halftime saw the Bobcats ahead 27-25, led by Leclair with 10 points, Kate Flick 6, Abby Mahoney 5 and Evelyn Guignion with 4 plus 8 rebounds. The Vikings were led by Sophie Campbell’s 2 three-pointers and 9 points, Katelyn Brothers with 5 and Bianca Batten with 4.
34-34 was three quarter score. The Bobcats were playing most of the quarter without Leclair who picked up her fourth foul. A three-pointer by Mahoney tied the score just before the quarter ended.
With 2:50 to play Leclair scored to give the Bobcats a 43-39 edge. Sophie Campbell went to the line for 2 shots, with 2:39 to play. Leclair scored after the misses to give the Cats a 6 point lead and then converted 2 foul shots to make it 47-39 with 1:16 remaining. Final was 50-40 for the Bobcats, as they won the AAAW bronze medals.

Montague: S. Campbell 17 pts, Brothers 7, Johnson 6 and Batten had 11 rebounds.
Bluefield: Leclair 17, Mahoney 9, Guignion and Kayla Storey 8 each and Flick with 6. Guignion also had 14 rebounds.
Players of the game were Brothers from Montague and Guignion from Bluefield.

PEISAA SENIOR “AAA” MEN BRONZE MEDAL GAME FROM HOLLAND COLLEGE MARCH 12.
BLUEFIELD vs WESTISLE
Bluefield went ahead 11-4 after first quarter.
Westisle came to life in the second quarter with 27 points. Brock Brink had 9, Thomas Smith 8 and Henry Arsenault 7. For Bluefield, Coulton MacDougall had 8 and Avery Rist 7, with the half-time score 31-24 for Westisle.
The pace certainly picked up in the third quarter, but Westisle maintained their lead 50-41. Blake Brink had 6 in the quarter for Westisle and MacDougall now had 14 for Bluefield. Two hoops by MacDougall and one by Willis brought the Bobcats to within 5, with 2:03 to play.  Two hoops by Blake Brink made it 66-59 with 41 seconds left.  The game ended with winners of the AAA Men bronze medal by a 70-61 margin.

PEISAA “AAA” Women CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, at HOLLAND COLLEGE, MARCH 12
COL GRAY at CG’TOWN RURAL
Col Gray started with a 7-0 run but the Raiders got rolling and led 24-12 at the end of the first quarter. Harlow Hannams had 3 treys for the Raiders and Maiya Chaudhary had 7 points.
At the half, Rural had a 36-24 lead in a rugged, fast-paced game. Hannams had 4 three pointers, Maiya Chaudhary 7 points and Alex Newson 6. For the Colonels, Naomi Ikpotokin had 8, Bella Vos 6 and Lily MacVicar 6.
Three quarter time had the Raiders with a 56-39 lead. Alex Newson started to control the defensive boards plus scored 7 in the third while Ikpotokin scored 11 in third quarter for Col Gray.
The Colonels kept up the pressure and the Colonels played hard to the final buzzer, with the final margin 68-50 for the Raiders.
Final score 68-50 for AAA W champs, Ch’town Rural Raiders.

THREE OAKS AT COL GRAY
A packed gym including a filled balcony at Holland College was ready to enjoy a great Championship game. Both teams were at full speed right from the opening tap, with Three Oaks leading 15-12 after one period.27-20 was the half-time score. Aiden Rossiter 8, Caleb Gallant 6, Zach Connell 6 and Sam Friesen with 4 scored for Three Oaks. For the Colonels, Nate MacDonald, Alex Nicholson, Robbie Douglas and Gabe Lee all had 4.
A hoop by Vaive, just at the buzzer, giving him 6 points in the quarter, tied the game at 43-43 after three quarters. Gallant and Rossiter hit for 6 each for the Axemen setting the 4th quarter stage.
In the fourth, the game was tied at 53 with 5:55 to play. Douglas had 5 rebounds in the quarter and 4 consecutive points late to give the Colonels the lead, extended to 64-56 with 2:31 to play. In the last four minutes the Vaive/Douglas combination had 9 points and 7 rebounds as the Axemen seemed to run out of gas and the Colonels claimed the Championship 69-56.
